We are currently seeking a professional to fill the role of Junior Drill & Blast Engineer at its underground Zinc operation. Located within 2-hour drive of The Thousand Islands, Lake Ontario shoreline, the Adirondack Mountains and world class skiing at Lake Placid. Explore Canada with Montreal and Ottawa only 2-3 hours away.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the chief mine engineer the Junior Drill & Blast Engineer will be a pivotal team member of our internal engineering team.
- Design blast patterns, especially for longhole stopes
- Assist with timing and loading of blasts
- Monitor drilling and blasting activities, reconcile and analyze results, and implement improvements to achieve the desired fragmentation. This may include areas such as drilling rates, spatial and physical compliance against daily and weekly plans, wall attainment, dilution/ore loss, and costs
- Assist with managing and overseeing blasting contractor
- Organize, inform, and collaborate with stakeholders on drill and blast design and execution.
- QA/QC of key inputs and metrics regarding drill and blast
- Ensure all employees and contractors are working in a safe manner in line with mine site standard operating procedures and MSHA safety guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent. Minor in Explosives Engineering is an asset.
- Basic understanding and experience with 3D modeling and mine planning software. Experience with Deswik preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization in both written and verbal means.
- Ability to work in the US.
- Ability to obtain blaster certification in the state of New York if required.
